Well, having started the guild Bloody Convicts in Warhammer Online, playing to max level and getting in amongst the RVR content, I've got a fair idea about Warhammer Online. I figured I'd put up some thoughts about the game, so that anyone interested in it could get a bit of a handle on it BEFORE forking out some bucks.
Warhammer Online was probably THE SMOOTHEST launch in MMO history. There were a few bugs, but FAR LESS than expected. The massive glitches and exploits were almost non existent. Most of the classes were fairly balanced. The PVP and RVR worked (more on this later). The quests were a bit grindy and solo-focused (aren't they always these days?), the harvesting aspect worked and was useful. The crafting was very simplistic (very similar to WoW's), but there was value to all crafting professions. But there's one BIG thing to get your head around with Warhammer Online - there is fuck all PVE content at higher levels. The game is largely focused on RVR (Realm versus Realm), which is basically big scale PVP battles. Warhammer Online delivers what AoC failed to - keep & seige combat. For a while there, the RVR campaign was borked - you could capture keeps and such, but there was no real benefit, as it was very difficult to progress the RVR campaign to where you marched on the enemy cities. That being said, the RVR campaign WAS advanced on a couple of servers, and the fortress zones crashed when literally HUNDREDS of players flooded into a single zone to defend/attack the fortress.
I've been told that most of this has cleared up and that RVR is now everything that it should be. In terms of PVP/RVR stuff, Warhammer is EXCELLENT. The soul of Warhammer is PVP and it shows. Every class is useful and necessary in RVR for starters. Getting hot oil tipped on you as you ram the front door of the keep is a daily occurrence. Mounted ballistae send their waves of missile mayhem into the massed enemy ranks below. Real world military tactics come into play every night of the week with flanking, bait, charge and withdrawal commonly featured in any given skirmish.
If you are a solid PVE lover, Warhammer isn't the game for you, as the end game is almost totally focused around RVR. There is some PVE stuff, but even that PVE content is more geared towards SUPPLEMENTING your RVR achievements. If you're a PVP lover, why the fuck are you even still here? Get into Warhammer - its THAT good.
By the way - there are two alignments: Order and Destruction. If you have a destro character on Server1, you can NOT also have an Order character on Server1. Characters of one alignment per server only lads.
There are several solid aussie guilds in Warhammer, so you should have no problems finding a good home.
