ausMMO FAQ's

What is the purpose of ausMMO

  • To provide a central place for all Australian MMORPG players to gather, communicate, share info and get their game on better, more efficiently and more enjoyably
  • To provide a resource database to share links and useful resources for everyone
  • To proivde a single place where (eventually) anyone can find anyone by searching for old guilds & guild mates, without spending hours trawling official sites & character rosters
  • To provide a single place where guilds can form, recruit and organise themselves
  • To provide a 'one stop shop' for all news & updates, no matter what MMORPG you play
  • To be THE PLACE for aussie gamers
  • Why is ausMMO a good thing?

  • Apart from the above list, ausMMO is a 'good thing' (™?) because there is a finite number of aussie players in the MMO community, and ausMMO will eventually bring a majority of those players together. This can ONLY be a good thing, as it will be easier for players to find mates and guilds, as well as being easier for guilds to find more members.
  • Why would my guild want to host at ausMMO?

  • Exposure mainly. Many people already use the ausMMO forums daily and those players will see your guild and your members around ausMMO. If those players get bored of their current game or guild, where is the first place they'd look for a new home? Where is the first place YOU would look for a new home? That's right - ausMMO. The fact that its currently free doesn't hurt either.
  • Guild hosting huh? Who else is here?

Is there any cost associated with ausMMO?

  • ausMMO costs money to host, but by far, the bigger cost associated with it is the time to build features and functionality. Currently, ausMMO has ZERO COSTS associated for the members or the guilds that are there. Any future 'membership fee' that is introduced will *not* impact upon current features of ausMMO. The majority of it will ALWAYS BE FREE - ausMMO is not a commercial venture. That being said, advertising will slowly be introduced, a premium membership service will probably be offered (although I have no clue what I can offer for a paid service, as there's already a lot of cool stuff here for nix!) and donations will always be an option. But at the end of the day, ausMMO is currently 100% free and that won't change by much, if at all.
  • Eventually, it is likely that ausMMO will charge guilds some nominal fee to host as a 'once per year' fee, something along the lines of $50.00 or whatever.
  • How hard is it to 'get started' at ausMMO?

  • For a player, simply register at the forums, then start reading the forums, chatting in game forums, browse the links, read the news or whatever. Dead simple. For guilds, you simply contact Spanka on the forums to chat about hosting your guild there. There will be some questions to ensure that your guild won't be 'gone in 3 months' and that your guild will be a valuable addition to the community. If accepted, your forums will be built, officers/admins/moderators appointed and if desired, a Joomla site built for you on your own subdomain for news and updates. All in all, its pretty damn quick.
  • My MMORPG guild isn't 100% aussie - can I still host here?

  • Provided that your guild is 'predominately aussie' (say, better than 50% aussie/NZ player base) then most likely, yes, you can host here.
  • Im not aussie, can I still register as a player here?

  • Of course. Just bear in mind that this site is by aussies for aussies & NZ'ers. That won't change.
  • What are the forum rules around here?

  • Really really simple. Don't be a dick. Do not flame, troll or otherwise be a wanker to anyone else here. At all times, be a mature, functioning adult. The administrators here will have no problem banning wankers and in fact, will probably take a little pleasure from it.
  • What rights do I have as an ausMMO member?

  • None. Anyone may register, join, participate, share, chat and whatever else. But no one has the RIGHT to do so; it is a privilege. That means that the administrators do not have to provide reasons/explanations as to any action they take. Its a bit draconian, but hey - if you're not a wanker, its not a problem.
  • How can I contribute to ausMMO?

  • Really easily. You can..
    • tell your mates about what is going on here
    • suggest to your guild that they may wish to look into hosting here at ausMMO
    • post up funny shit and shoot the breeze in our forums
    • submit links and guild websites to our Resources Database
    • fill out up to 5 characters in your user profile, so that old mates can find you in our memberlist feature
    • suggest new feeds/comics/mmo articles etc for the news site in the Feature requests & suggestions forum
    • write articles for ausMMO - contact Spanka for details
    • suggest a new MMORPG to be listed & supported at ausMMO (ideally, will want a guild to host here in that game also) - it is almost a definite that ausMMO will support a new game if there's an active guild willing to host here in said game
  • Can I advertise at ausMMO?

  • Absolutely. However, I will only advertise services and items that I feel are of value; I don't believe in advertising things just because I get a phat commission (Google Ads are the exception for now *sigh*). I believe in referring mates to quality goods and services, because the end customer gets a GOOD referral to something they're happy with. Everyone is happier in the end. At this stage, any advertising will be done without charge to you (because you're offering a GOOD thing, right?) with no fixed/guaranteed air time. Sometime around March 2009, I will be taking stock of the advertising power of ausMMO and look at a pay-per-banner or other listing mechanism to advertise here.
  • What can I expect out of ausMMO in the coming months?

  • All your MMORPG news & comics in one place. A continually growing community for the Australian MMORPG crowd, with several strong guilds and a multitude of links\resources. I'm hoping to introduce blogs for any member that wants it, more guilds hosted here and a much more functional character listing database so you can list as many characters as you want. A guild recruitment section. Whatever else I can think of.
  • Why should I bother with ausMMO?

  • Crap, the last FAQ, better make it a good one! Without players, the MMO community doesn't work. Without players, guilds dont work. Our entire community requires one invaluable raw resource: players. Like it or lump it, our genre of gaming requires massive amounts of resources: warm bodies at computers. We need to realise that active players are the ONE THING that makes EVERYONE's mmo gaming alive and enjoyable. If we all need the same resource to thrive, then it only makes sense to pool our resources, keep in contact and help ourselves and others make our MMO gaming more fun. So why should YOU bother with ausMMO? Because every warm body at ausMMO has a 5% crit chance* to make your gaming life better in some way. [all figures vary +/- 200% depending upon mob level, guild level, player gear, RNG and Spanka's arbitrary bullshit value]
